5 Things to Consider When You Think About Publicity, Sales and Marketing Materials for Your Book

By Trevor Lund on December 21, 2011

At PageMaster Publication Services we provide all kinds of publicity, sales and marketing materials for your books. It’s important to us that you not only get a great price but that their is exceptional value in the products you use.

Now that you have determined the best publicity, sales, and marketing outlets for your marketing goals, you need to decide what types of collateral best serve your marketing goals. Should you design and print business cards and postcards? Should you set up a website or blog? What about a press kit?

For each type of collateral you are considering, you’ll want to first consider:

  1. Can you design and produce it on your own, or will you have to outsource it?
  2. Will the design and production of this piece of collateral fit within your budget and time line?
  3. Will it clearly and convincingly demonstrate the benefit(s) you are offering to your target publicity, sales, and marketing sources?
  4. Will it make it easy and convenient for your target publicity, sales, and marketing outlets to work with you by providing information about you and your book?
  5. Will this piece of collateral appeal to your core target market?

Here are some suggestions:

Postcards, posters, sale sheets, sales letters, media kit, online media kit, video book trailer, review copies of your book, book reviews…

For each of these and any other promotional material you can think of ask yourself:

  • Can I afford the cost?
  • Do I have time for it?
  • Will it motivate my perfect reader?
  • Will I use it?

What other promotional resources have you used for your books? Share them in the comments and lets make this a better resources for people. Thanks you.
