Choosing Your Email Address

Choosing your email address is a lot like choosing the domain name for your Author or Artist site. The difference is you don’t have to worry about availability. Since you own the domain we can set up your email address to be just about anything you want. But please consider Branding, Clarity and Draw.

Branding

Do you want to want to be personal or corporate? For most artists and authors it’s advisable to be personal. You want to connect with your current and future clients and readers.

myname@mydomain.com is usually a reasonable email address. It works really well when your domain is your personal name.

Clarity

Daily we see email addresses that gmail or hotmail or yahoo suggested someone and they accepted it. When you have your own domain leave out the numbers and underscores. A period between your first and last name is an acceptable standard and easy to say so others understand.

firstname.lastname@mydomain.com This isn’t suggested when your domain name is already your first and last name.

Draw

Make your email not only easy to say, but also memorable. myname@mydomain.com often makes it easier for people to remember your name.

Being creative with your email address often makes it more difficult for people to communicate with you. SupremeAristforLife@mydomain.com is fun but confusing.
Leave out numbers, underscores, homonyms and words with variant spelling. If your name is hard to spell consider simply using contact@mydomain.com

I hope this quick overview of branding, clarity and draw was good to give you the pointers you need to choose memorable, effective email addresses for your domain.
