There are two ways to turn comments off and on in WordPress. The first I’ll show you is when you want to turn them off the entire site.
If you want no comments at all Go to “Settings” – “Discussion” and under the “Default Article Setting” uncheck “Allow people to post comments on new articles” and hit “Save Changes”. Now no one is able to post comments.
You’d do this if you want a completely static site with no communication. It’s really the least effective way to build a following for your work, but if you just want a website and don’t want to interact you have a way to make your site without interaction.
To turn comments on just select “Allow people to post comments on new articles” and hit “Save Changes.”
The second way to turn of comments is for the specific post or page. Most pages you don’t want comments on. It’s static content. You might want comments on your Sample Chapter page if you’re an author or the Portfolio if you’re an artist.
To turn off comments on any page or post go to the top right side of the creation side of the page or post and click the “Screen Options” tab. Make sure the “Discussion” box is checked. Once it is you’ll have the option to allow “Comments” and “Allow Pingbacks and Trackbacks”.
Use this feature if you want to stop discussion on a particular page or post. Personally, I usually ask readers to comment. I want discussion on what I post. It builds community. But if you want to turn it off you know how to do it now.
