November often signals the start of winter—the days are shorter, the nights are longer. The air becomes crisp and, depending on where you live, there might already be snow on the ground. Many choose to take refuge indoors during November. Some prefer to spend the month binging their favourite series on Netflix, others take up baking. And then there are those who challenge themselves by writing a 50, 000 word novel. Welcome to the first week of NanoWriMo.
What is NaNoWriMo?
National Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is a creative writing challenge that was first started in 1999. The premise of the challenge is simple, but the task itself is daunting. Participating writers set out on November 1st each year with the goal of completing the first draft of a novel by November 30th.
Hundreds of thousands of writers participate in NaNoWriMo each year. Though all ages are welcome, NaNoWrimo has mostly been popularized by young writers through art-supported social media platforms like Deviantart, Tumblr, and Twitter.
NanoWriMo is hosted by a non-profit organization of the same name that supports writing fluency and education. Their website hosts numerous resources for participating writers including a NaNoWriMo prep list, community threads, writing schedules, pep-talks presented by well-known published authors, and so much more!
How is PageMaster supporting NaNoWrimo?
