You’ll remember in a previous post I outlined 6 Tips You Need To Write Your Book Quickly. In this post I’ll tell you how to take that planning and write your book in sixty days.
Now don’t be pressured to write a book in 60 days. I’ve written a novel in 3 days and I’ve take a book from concept to sale in 5 weeks. I don’t recommend that to everyone. I recommend this formula as I’ve written with it and I’ve written without it…and I don’t what to write a book without it again.
- Commit to write. First, commit to writing 15 minutes a day. If you stick to this commitment, you’ll be tricking yourself into doing more. The biggest distraction to writing is sitting down to do it. Every excuse not to do it will come into play. But if you commit yourself to it, it will get done. Have someone hold you accountable to writing 15 minutes a day. Be answerable to yourself and someone else. Once you start writing, if you’ve taken the time to plan, you will always write more… and those times you don’t, as long as you’ve written for 15 minutes, you’ll know you’ve accomplished you’re goal for the day. If you can commit to an hour, even better, it is amazing how much you can get done when you don’t leave yourself time for distraction.
- Write in 5-Minute intervals. You are most creative in the first 5 minutes of writing. Most people can write two-thirds of a page in that time. Since you’ve planned out your chapter into fifteen topics, writing two-thirds of a page on each one will give you a ten page chapter. That’s 15 five-minute sessions to write a chapter… and once you start you’re going to do more. If you’re book is 10 chapters that’s 150 five minute intervals. If you do 3 a day, that’s 50 days. This is why I can say you can write any book in 60 days.
I like to write the original copy long hand. Sure, I may not be able to read my own writing, but it gives me an extra step in editing and frees me from thinking too much about things that can slow down the creative process – like those little red and green squiggly lines.
Using this plan you can write a book in month by simply writing for 30 minutes a day. If you could pull off writing for a full twelve and a half hours, you’re book can be done in that time. The quickest I’ve been able to do it is to spread those twelve and a half writing hours over three days…but after writing this I’m inspired to try to do it quicker. (I have a few books I’ve been waiting to write).
