Stirring Memories by “The GANG”

Stirring Memories Book CoverThe GANG (Grandmothers of Alberta for a New Generation) held a fantastic launch of their new book Stirring Memories:  Reflections and Memories at the Provincial Archives of Alberta on Tuesday, November 20.

Stirring Memories  is wonderful collection of food memories and the recipes associated with them. And it is the latest project sponsored by the GANG in their efforts to support African grandmothers caring for AIDS orphaned children through the Stephen Lewis Foundation. In Sub-Saharan Africa the struggle against AIDS has wiped out a generation of parents, leaving the children in the care of their grandmothers.  All the proceeds from Stirring Memories are going to support these courageous women in Africa.  Members of the GANG at Sir Winston Churchill Square in Edmonton, ABStirring Memories reminds all of us of the commonalities we share with the grandmothers and their families in Africa–the gathering, preparing and sharing of food with our families and the tradition of sharing our stories with future generations.
